About Dawn

I’ve loved stories for as long as I can remember.

As a little girl, I spent countless hours reading Little House on the Prairie, Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, and The Secret Garden. Those books became dear friends and sparked a dream that one day I might write stories that would encourage others the same way they encouraged me.

That dream eventually led me to a career in education. After earning my Master’s degree in Teaching from the University of Southern California, I spent years teaching children, developing curriculum, and helping young learners discover the joy of reading. Along the way, I realized that some of life’s greatest lessons are often learned through stories.

Today I’m blessed to write the Picking the Fruit of the Spirit picture book series, helping children ages 3–8 discover biblical character through engaging stories, relatable situations, and conversations families can continue long after the last page is turned. My hope is to equip parents and grandparents with simple tools to help children know Christ and grow in their faith.

In addition to writing children’s books, I’m also a professional editor and Christian historical fiction author. My historical novels allow me to combine my love of research, Scottish history, and faith into stories for adult readers.

Like many writers, the journey hasn’t always been easy. Writing often happens between family responsibilities, substitute teaching, editing projects, speaking events, and everyday life. But through each season, God has faithfully reminded me that small, consistent steps can produce lasting fruit.

My greatest inspiration comes from watching children discover biblical truth in ways they understand. Whether through a picture book, a family challenge, or a conversation around the dinner table, I believe God uses ordinary moments to grow extraordinary faith.

I live in Oregon with my husband, Henry. Together we’re blessed with a wonderfully large blended family—five adult daughters (including two sets of twins!), three stepchildren, and six grandchildren who continually remind me why stories matter.

When I’m not writing, you’ll usually find me curled up with a good book, hiking or enjoying God’s creation, researching Scottish history, visiting historical sites, or planning my next family adventure.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope my books encourage your family to keep…
